You need do very little, they are near impossible to kill.
I have some growing in large pots outside and I give them no care at all, except for maybe an occasional sprinkle of water now and then in summer.
If it's being kept indoors just make sure it gets a bit of sunlight and maybe pop it outside in the rain every once and a while.

So true - sturdy plants - lovely structural appearance and they can grow very large. I pull off the bottom leaves to encourage a "trunk" appearance and two are now 2m tall. As an experiment I've put three in the ground at Wagga (Riverina - hot summers - frosty winters) as I've seen large specimens (like Boab trees) around the corner. I don't know how long it will take for these to grow. The pony tails that I'm growing on the Central Coast are developing faster. Enjoy

I too have a Pony tail I paid $6.00 for it when it was it was very young & very small. I have had it for 15 yrs now it is huge & magnificent. I saw another persons ponytail with mutiple shoots so I cut off the head of mine in winter & in September October it had grown 10 shoots instead of 1 it is magnificent now with a full head of magnificent leaves. I estimate it would be worth over $100.00 now.
